The Fringe Project in Trowse The landscape that surrounds Norwich, also known as the Norwich Fringe, is very diverse consisting of woodlands, river valleys, meadows, farm land, housing and industry. The fringe is considered to be a very sensitive area, and therefore it is necessary to promote, protect and enhance many of the sites. Since the project was established in 1990 dramatic changes have occurred. Whitlingham Country Park and the Southern by-pass are good examples. The project has been involved in the development and promotion of many sites, Cary's Meadow, Charter Wood, Dunston Common, Earlham Millennium Green, Horsford Pits, and the Yare Valley Walk to name but a few. The Norwich Fringe Project responds to issues which affect the area's wildlife, landscape and recreational value, the project area extending to a four mile radius from the center of Norwich to the fringe. The Project works with local communities, parish councils, schools, societies and youth groups, protecting and enhancing wildlife areas, encouraging visitors and providing and improving information about the area.
