A walk in Trowse Woods

For people looking for somewhere new to take your dog for a walk, or to simply enjoy the wonderful Spring greenery, try Trowse woods.  This woodland is notable for being the ‘nursery’ for the damselflies emerging from the water meadow on the other side of Whittlingham Lane.  It is also a good site for woodland birds and flowers, and has a magnificent snowdrop display in early spring, and bluebells in May. The old lime pits are a favourite for adventurous kids! [Read more…]

Trowse Village Sign Photos

If you’ve never stopped and looked closely at the village sign, I’ve taken some photos for you to do so at home. It’s a fascinating sign, and I can’t say I am too sure about all the history of it (particularly who is that man in the tree?). Note ‘Spikey’, the hedgehog made from the spikes taken from the school railings and beautifully welded by local artist Rebecca Kemp. [Read more…]

NEW HOUSING – A BATTLE WON! – BUT THE WAR CONTINUES UPDATED

NEWS FROM YOUR DISTRICT COUNCILLOR

As foreseen in the last Trowse Villager, housing allocations for Trowse under the Local Plan come to South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet on March 25th – after this is written but before you read it. The agenda for that Cabinet Meeting recommends that both of the sites between the village and the bypass are no longer allocated for new housing.  South Norfolk had identified the sites as able to contribute up to 250 homes from 1,800 it needed to find on ‘smaller’ sites near Norwich, but it now believes that those 250 can be found elsewhere. Annual Trowse 10k road race – Easter Sunday 31 March

City of Norwich AC is organising the ninth Trowse 10k road race on Easter Sunday morning from the Norfolk Snowsports Club on Whitlingham Lane.

The race starts at 9am and we have chosen this early start time so that the event takes place when the local roadways are fairly quiet.  This year a record 550 runners have registered to take part and the back markers should be finished by about 10.30am at the very latest. [Read more…]

January Trowse Snow Photos!

There’s something really special about snow scenes in the UK. Everything seems to take on a magical appearance – so out I popped with my trusty old camera and took these photos in and around newton close at night, and lots of other places during the day. If anyone wants a copy of the higher resolution image, get in touch!

It was great to see the school allowing the kids to run around the common and play in the snow! As I was out there, the sun burst through and captured some great pictures of the shop and Stanton Terrace. [Read more…]
